The Kindness Quilt

In the 2022-2027 District Strategic Plan, we are committed to nurturing caring relationships/connections through acts of kindness, which has also traditionally been a focus of the month of February.

Raft River Elementary is celebrating the release of "The Kindness Quilt", a book written by one of our very own primary teachers, Ms. Indigo Johnson. In 2017, she became involved in the search for missing Sun Peaks resident, Ryan Shtuka. At the time, she was also working towards her teaching degree at TRU. When given a class assignment to write a children's story, Ms. Johnson gathered inspiration from Ryan and the Shtuka family.

Five years later, her dreams of sharing messages of kindness became a reality when her book was published! The book was released for presales on February 20th; just in time for Friendship Week at Raft River Elementary. All classes were able to listen to Ms. Johnson read her story and take part in a school-wide kindness quilt display. Students of all ages shared important messages about kindness. 

Students and staff at Raft River are very proud of Ms. Johnson and her huge accomplishment! We hope her book will be in schools across the district so the message of kindness can be shared with all!
