An update on the Community Event on Student Reporting
by Shaun McKenna - Tuesday, 24 January 2017, 2:03 PM

    Hello Parents and Caregivers,

School District No. 73 (Kamloops/Thompson) and the Ministry of Education are hosting a community meeting on Monday, January 30th, 2017, to share thoughts about B.C.’s revised
curriculum and how student learning will be communicated to parents.

Between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, an Open House will be held at the Henry Grube Education Centre, where parents and community members can provide their input on what information they would like to see on student report cards.

From 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Ministry of Education will address parents’ questions and seek your input on student reporting. This portion of the program will be video-conferenced to Clearwater Secondary School.

Your voice will make a difference. Your ideas about what would make student reporting better are valuable and we want to hear your thoughts. We look forward to speaking with you on Monday, January 30th, 2017.

    Safe Arrival
by Shaun McKenna - Wednesday, 7 December 2016, 12:03 PM

    Dear Parents,

You would have received two pieces of communication from both the school, a card that has the contact information on it, and an email on how to set up an account with SchoolConnects. The school district has committed to a new safe arrivals program that let the parents control and track their child's absences. SchoolConnects is a communications platform used by schools to notify parents/guardians of attendance, upcoming school events, school closures, emergencies etc. Once Parents/guardians are signed up they can use this service to review their contact information as SchoolConnects uses this information to deliver notifications.

Parents have three methods of reporting their child's absences. One way is to call 1-844-350-2647, enter your home phone number and listen to the IVR as it walks you through entering the date and reason for your child's absence. If you have multiple children in school it will list them as well. Just ensure that you select a reason and at the end of the call you press one to complete the absence. Or if you are called by SchoolConnects you listen to the whole message and choose a reason to complete the call; if you do not then you may be called numerous times.

The second way is outlined by the email you have already received. It goes over how to set up your account with Safe Arrival. If you did not receive the email or was not sure if it was official and you deleted it you can go to this website:

For the login, click on the forgot password link and enter your email address and the system will send you your contact information. The website is an excellent way to enter your child's absences and track past absences.

The third method, if you have an Android or Apple device, is to download the SafeArrival app. You can go to the Google Play store or the Apple App and search using the keyword "safearrival" (one word) to download the Synrevoice SafeArrival app. In order to use the App you will need to setup an account on the web page.

This SafeArrival program is to replace calling the school to book your child's absences. While writing an absence in the agenda is good information for the teacher to have, you will still be required to call SafeArrival to book the absence or you will be getting a call from the automated system. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call the office for further information.

    Thank you,

    Shaun McKenna
